Location: Edinburgh

Details: St Giles' Cathedral is the historic City Church of Edinburgh. With its famed crown spire it stands on the Royal Mile between Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Also known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, it is the Mother Church of Presbyterianism and contains the Chapel of the Order of the Thistle (Scotland's chivalric company of knights headed by the Queen). The church has been one of Edinburgh's religious focal points for approximately 900 years. Today it is sometimes regarded as the mother church of Presbyterianism.

St Giles' Cathedral Edinburgh

As the name implies, the cathedral is dedicated to St. Giles, who was the patron saint of Edinburgh as well as of cripples and lepers. He was a very popular saint in the Middle Ages.
