15th Century Scottish History Timeline

1402: English defeat Scots in the Battle of Nesbit Moor and the Battle of Homildon Hill (Humbleton Hill).

1406: King James I captured by English near Flamborough as he heads to France.

 


1411: University of St. Andrews founded.

1421: Scottish and French troops under the command of the Earl of Buchan defeat the English at Baug in Anjou, France.

 


1423: Treaty of London, releasing James I from his eighteen years captivity in England.

 


1437: Edinburgh becomes the capital of Scotland.

 


1451: University of Glasgow founded.

1468: Denmark cedes Orkney and Shetland to Scotland.

 


1482: Berwick on Tweed finally lost to the England (after changing hands 12 times).

 


1493: Lordship of the Isles abolished. In 1540 the title was reserved to the crown.

 


1494: University of Aberdeen founded (King's College).

1496: Education Act of 1496 makes education compulsory for barons and wealthy landowners.
